Studio Lime led the transformation of leisure facilities at Holmleigh Park High School, revitalising underused spaces into a vibrant community fitness hub through a partnership between Greenshaw Learning Trust and Halo Leisure.
Studio Lime were appointed to provide full architectural services from concept to completion for the refurbishment of leisure facilities for the Greenshaw Learning Trust at Holmleigh Park High School. The Greenshaw Learning Trust partnered with Halo Leisure, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing accessible community fitness spaces. The partnership aimed to revitalise underused school amenities and extend their benefit to the wider community.
A key challenge was the location of the facilities within the school grounds. To ensure safe, independent access during school hours, we introduced a new secure entrance, separate from the main school entry. As part of this, the existing car park was extended to create an area of dedicated parking for users of the new leisure facilities.
Internally, the existing spaces included an underutilised squash court and activity studios. With squash declining in popularity, the school had already converted one of the two courts into a studio, though it remained underused.
Our design proposed infilling the remaining squash court and removing internal partitions to create a spacious fitness suite spread across two floors. A new staircase was introduced to connect the two floors, allowing users to move freely between workout zones. Additional interventions improved both the flow and overall experience for buildings users, including opening up the reception area to create a welcoming arrival point, refurbishing toilet and shower facilities to modernise them and transforming an underused room into a dedicated spin room.
