Filton Avenue School

The completed extension is located between the existing Filton Avenue School and Lockleaze Road in Bristol. Reaching out to the local community is very important to the school and the Community Room and Community Meeting Rooms have taken prominence in the plans, not only in scale but also in visibility from Lockleaze Road. The extension also makes a re-arrangement of the internal layout possible. The Head’s Office and the Reception Office are re-located close to the new entrance.

At the conceptual stage, whilst space planning, we realised that the proposed group teaching room adjacent to the reception area could be expanded to become a community room for adult learning and community events. This was an addition to the brief but was constructed within the original budget. This initiative added value to the project by providing a community facility that is well used and an additional revenue stream for the school.
